Absences - If your child needs to miss school, please call the office at 762-3221. If there is no answer please leave a message. Please also email me at [email protected]. When your child returns to school please send a note with the date and a reason for absence and child's name.
Afterschool Care- After school care begins at 3:15-5:30 each school day. Students will get a snack, work on homework and have play time. Please send a note in to get paper to fill out for after care.
All about Me/ All about you- Each child will have a turn at being highlighted as "Star of the Week". A folder will come home in the THURSDAY folder with a list of pictures to put in the clear folders. Please put pictures on one side only ( we hang the clear folder up for display). You may cut pictures out of magazines, draw pictures or use pictures you have taken. Pictures will be returned in the next THURSDAY folder. Once all the students have been "star of the week", we will ask parents to come in to share their occupation or a hobby with the class.

Birthdays- We love to celebrate birthdays. Please send in a special snack for your child to share with his/her classmates at lunch. Mini cupcakes, brownies, rice krispies and cookies are encouraged for the special snack. OR Parents may also wish to buy the class ice cream. For summer birthdays will be celebrated on the half year date or in May.
Book-It program- We participate in the Pizza Hut Reading Program. This is not a mandatory program. Each month you are asked to read 8-12 books to your child. Please fill in the monthly calendar.
Book Bags - In Kindergarten, the students need to carry a backpack that can hold 2 folders and a lunch box. Please no bags on wheels.
Breakfast- Research shows that children who eat breakfast learn better than those who don't so please be sure that your child is eating breakfast daily.

Conferences- I will hold a Parent/Teacher conference in October/November with each parent. I also may hold a Parent/Teacher/Student conference in April for the students to share their work with you. However, you may request additional conferences by calling 762-3221 or sending a note in the clear folder.
Confidentiality- The safety and well-being of students is my number one priority, which is Why I insist that any conversations or observations made while in the school setting should not be discussed in or out of school with anyone other than me. This includes parent helpers and field trip helpers.

Dismissal- We will dismiss students at 3:15. Car riders should be picked up in the car line at the rear of the gym. Please follow cars around the traffic pattern. . Walkers will meet parents at the side door of the gym. Please be prompt in picking up your students. If your child's transportation needs to be changed after school has starts, please call the office at 762-3221 by 2:45.

Early dismissal.- If your child needs to leave school before the regular dismissal time, you must go to the office to sign him/her out. Our secretary will call for your child to meet you in the office. Please send a note to me if your child needs to be picked up early.

Field Trips- We will be going to Renfrew in the fall, winter and spring. We also will be enjoying a play at a theatre. Permission slips will be sent home in advance with the details of the trip. Please return permission slip as soon as possible. Please send a note with the permission slip if you are
able to chaperone the trip.
Fire Drills- We will practice monthly throughout the school year. All students are expected to walk quietly and quickly to our designated area. We will practice with first and second grade the first few weeks of school.

Goodbyes- Saying goodbye at school can be very emotional for you. But try to send your child off with a smile and a wave. Remember even distressed children settle quickly once you are gone, so make your leave loving but brief. Resist the urge to return if they cry- this will only prolong the situation. If dropping your child off in the back lot, have the safety patrol student walk your child into the lunch room. We will be waiting for the students at the Kindergarten table.

Health- Please let me know of any special circumstance that may affect you Child(medication that make him/her sleepy, death in the family(including pets), sickness in the family, late night or anything else). This helps us to know what may be wrong if a child is having trouble in class on certain days.
Homework- Your child will bring a book home for you to read to him/her for the first 4 weeks. Your child will need to draw their favorite part of the story and dictate a sentence to you. Please let us know if your child keeps picking the same book, we encourage the students to pick new books, but sometimes they continue to pick the same book. Near the beginning of October students will be bringing books home to read to you. Please allow 5-10 minutes to listen to the book. Please do not spend more than 20 minutes having your child read to you. If your child is having trouble with the book (too hard or easy), write me a note. Make this a special time for you to enjoy books together. Math and science homework will be sent home periodically.
Helping Hands- Each day we will have a main helper and back up helper in the classroom. These 2 students will sit in regular school desks. These students will help do various jobs throughout the day. (picking up the mail in the office, handing out paper, collecting items)

Illnesses- It is a hard decision to keep your child home from school due to work and schedules. Please keep your child home if they have a fever, or upset stomach. Children function better in the classroom when they are healthy. Please call the school before 8:40, if your child will not be coming
to school.

Library- We will visit the library once a week as a class. Please be sure to put library books in book bags the day of library. When they do not have a book, the students usually are unhappy.
Lunch Money- Student lunch orders should be sent in on Friday for the next week. If your child is sick on Friday, please send the order in on Monday. We have wonderful parent helpers that collect and record lunch orders. Please be sure to write your child's name and lunch choices on the form. Please place
the lunch order and money in an envelope. Mark lunch money on the outside of the envelope.
Lunch time- We will eat lunch from 11:50-12:10 daily. I will need helpers to open milk, hand out spoons, napkins, and help students with lunches. All Volunteers need to have current clearances.

Magic Number- Each child will receive a magic number for the year. This helps us learn our lower numbers, line up and we use them when playing games.
Money- Money is difficult for students to keep track of. Whenever you send money with your child (trips, lunch, book orders, etc.), please be sure it is in an envelope marked with your child's name and what the money is for.

Newsletters- I will post my weekly/Biweekly letter at the school website under Kindergarten. It is important that you read this information. I will put reminders for upcoming events, questions you can ask your child about the week and schedules.

Recess- We will play outside/inside in the morning and after lunch time. Afternoon recess is a privilege and will be earned if we complete all our work for the day. We will be going outside as long as the temperature and wind chill is above 32 F. I will check the weather before each recess.
Restrooms-We will visit the restrooms as a class in the morning and after lunch recess. Children may go individually throughout the day. Please let me know of any medical problems that may require frequent trips to the rest room.

Scholastic Book Orders- Each month I will send home book order forms. If you would like to purchase books, please go on-line and use the code GLG3F to order books. These books make wonderful presents for birthdays and Christmas.

Scrip- You may purchase scrip(gift cards) each week. Please send orders in on Friday morning in an envelope. Please check clear folders on Friday afternoons for scrip cards. Some cards take 1 week to receive.
Snack Time- We will be having snack each morning between 10:20-10:30. I will send a note home asking for contributions for our snacks. You may purchase any snacks that are on the list. If you find a snack on sale that is not on the list, please send it in to class. Ex. pretzels-sticks or small pretzels, crackers, graham crackers, cheese crackers, pre popped popcorn, goldfish, teddy grahams, chex mix, dry cereal(fruit loops, lucky charms, etc.) raisins, etc.

Take Home folder-Your child will receive a clear folder on the first day of school. This will be One of ways of communication with parents. Please check the folder each afternoon and send any notes for me in the folder. I will check the folder each morning for notes, lunch money and other important information. Please send this folder each day.
Thursday Folders- Each Thursday a folder will come home with important papers that need to be filled out and returned to class on one side of the folder. The other side will have your child's classwork papers. Please be sure to empty this folder and return it the next day.
Tardy- If you bring your child after 8:35, you will need to walk your child to the office to sign him/her in. It is very important that your child arrive on time each day.
Toys -Toys, games, musical listening devices, cards are not to be brought to class. Our classroom is filled with many items to keep us busy, and lost or broken toys can result in very sad feelings. We are not responsible for any of these items that are brought to school in bookbags.We will have show and tell a few times during the year when students may bring toys to show classmates. We will collect the toys to keep them safe and will get them out for sharing time only.
Transportation Changes- If your child's transportation for any day changes, please send me a note in the daily folder. Without a note the child will have to follow their normal schedule.
